I’ve been trawling my photos all week trying to meet the weekly photo challenge of “Reflections”. “SHOW US AN IMAGE THAT SAYS REFLECTION. It could be a person who helps you see things clearly, a place you go to collect your thoughts, or an object that reminds you of your achievements”.
None of my photos were jumping out at me and I’d decided I’d concede defeat, when tonight my friend Diane posted this old photo on Facebook. To me this photo screams “Reflection”; I was so overcome with nostalgia I nearly cried. That’s me in the middle, heavily pregnant with our second child, Diane on the right, and a 4-year old Adam on the left. The photo was taken in October 2000 when Diane flew from Australia to visit us living in North Carolina. We’re sitting and drinking tea from the thermos at one of my favourite, most beautiful places in the world – the Blue Ridge Parkway in the fall. We drove to this place quite a few times over the 3 years we lived in Durham, NC and we would stop and sit and reflect on the beauty and the goodness of life. It was wonderful to share this experience with my best friend. We returned home to Australia a few weeks after this photo was taken; Dylan was born in the February and was given the middle name Boone (after the town not far from the Blue Ridge Parkway) as a permanent reminder of this special place.
