Baby, you’re a firework

photo[4]I am so excited for tomorrow. Tomorrow I get to take my 10-year old baby to his first ever concert, to see an artist he has loved for years – Katy Perry. I remember several years ago, him sitting for hours at the computer listening to Katy Perry’s “Firework” on You-Tube and painstakingly writing down every word from what he could hear (nowadays he would look up the lyrics – am not sure why he didn’t do that then!). We know all of Katy Perry’s hits in our house thanks to Joshua singing them at the top of his voice, usually in the bathroom when at his most relaxed. He has no idea what a treat he’s in for – the music, the lights, the theatre, the screaming and drama. I can’t wait to watch his face. The first concert I took his now-13 year old brother to was the Black-Eyed Peas – what a fabulous experience that was, even if I did get into trouble for the way I was dancing! Memories they’ll have forever.

At the time the Katy Perry tickets went on sale the older two boys (18 and 13) begged me to buy them tickets also. The time has finally come and suddenly it is too uncool to go the concert with your mum and little brother. “I don’t want to go!”, the unanimous cry from them both. The tickets were tricky to get and cost a fortune, and I was somewhat displeased at their “easy come, easy go” attitude. However, we are now taking two of Joshua’s friends – two little girls who LOVE Katy Perry and are over-the-moon-excited to have been asked to come with us. Both girls had a really crap time last year, with each losing a parent to cancer. It brings me unbelievable joy to be able to give them a night out that hopefully they’ll remember for years to come. I must remember to pack the earplugs! I’m sure we will all have a fantastic time together .

FIREWORK by Katy Perry

Do you ever feel
Like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind
Wanting to start again

Do you ever feel
Feel so paper-thin
Like a house of cards
One blow from caving in

Do you ever feel
Already buried deep
Six feet under
Screams but no one seems to hear a thing

Do you know that there’s
Still a chance for you
‘Cause there’s a spark in you
You just gotta

Ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July

‘Cause baby, you’re a firework
Come on show them what you’re worth
Make them go, “Oh, oh, oh”
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you’re a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make them go, “Oh, oh, oh”
You’re gonna leave them all in awe

You don’t have to feel
Like a waste of space
You’re original
Cannot be replaced

If you only knew
What the future holds
After a hurricane
Comes a rainbow

Maybe the reason why
All the doors are closed
So you could open one
That leads you to the perfect road

Like a lightning bolt
Your heart will glow
And when it’s time you know
You just gotta

Ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July

‘Cause baby, you’re a firework
Come on show them what you’re worth
Make them go, “Oh, oh, oh”
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you’re a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make them go, “Oh, oh, oh”
You’re gonna leave them all in awe

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It’s always been inside of you, you, you
And now it’s time to let it through

‘Cause baby, you’re a firework
Come on show them what you’re worth
Make them go, “Oh, oh, oh”
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you’re a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make them go, “Oh, oh, oh”
You’re gonna leave them all in awe

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
